Astro Communications is a business with a very charitable heart and soul, so we are delighted to be supporting our own Vicky Smith as she takes on a personal challenge to complete the Race For Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Vicky has decided to take on this great challenge in memory of her Nan who bravely battled cancer three times in her life, twice she overcame it and the third time she didn’t, but Vicky says, “she didn’t go down without a fight”. Her Nan sadly passed away nine years ago and Vicky has wanted to do the Race for Life since, but now feels the time is the right time as, more recently, her best friend’s mum was diagnosed with, and fought, cancer. At the start of February was she told she is all clear!
Vicky says,“I am taking part in this 10k Race for Life in loving memory of my Nan, everyone who has ever lost a battle or lost someone to cancer and also to all those who have fought and won the battle. Let’s show cancer that the human race is stronger than it thinks! We will beat it, together!”
Vicky’s training has begun in earnest and she will be going to the gym two to three times a week and building up her walking/jogging speeds and also her core strength.
Vicky’s Race for Life takes place on 6th July at Mote Park in Maidstone.

Steve Hodges, Managing Director of Astro commented, “Vicky joined our organisation a year and a half ago and has gone from strength to strength both in her role and her growth as a person. Vicky regularly demonstrates the ability to get behind an idea or a task and just ‘make it happen’ and this is another demonstration of her putting her heart into a challenge and getting on with it. Where lots of people would say “I am going to” or “I should have” Vicky is going for it, and we are 100% behind her. We will be cheering her on and wishing her luck every step of the way as she undertakes this challenge and makes us all proud.”
