Astro is delighted to announce that they have been selected as finalists in the prestigious SME National Business Awards. It is the first time Astro has entered these awards which makes being shortlisted in the Employer of the Year category even more special.
The Awards, which have been running for seven years, were established to raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and enterprising SME’s nationally; the Employer of the Year category focusses on how employers look after their employees so they in turn look after their customers – something that is at the very core of all Astro do.
Steve Hodges, Astro Chief Executive said of this achievement, “Being shortlisted in this category is enormous honour for the whole Astro team. As an employer, we look very closely at the personal needs of each member of the team; some are afraid of failure, some hungry for success; some do things for what they can possibly achieve, some for what is necessary for survival. We have team members who want to be very public with their achievements, some who just want to be helped to feel like they are doing a great job. We accommodate all of these needs and for the judges to recognise and reward this is so important to us”.
Astro and the team have been recipients of many awards over the years. Steve Hodges was crowned Director of the Year at the highly prestigious Institute of Directors Awards in 2020 following the company being finalists in 2019 World Communication Awards first ever Culture Change Awards – an award that recognises organisations that are best progressing in transforming cultural attitudes throughout their business. 2020 also saw Astro shortlisted in the Comms National Awards, Positive Impact Category for CSR. Steve Hodges and Astro Co-Founder and CTO, Steve Smith have both been recognised for their achievements by receiving Honorary Fellowships of the ITP in recent years. The same organisation, which is the most respected industry body in the sector and is the leading body for people who work in the telecommunications industry, declare two of Astro’s apprentices, Nathan Lee and Jacob Whitby, Apprentices of the Year for 2020 and 2021.
Helping them on their road to success was Sarah Smith, Head of Service Management, who not only leads Astro’s first-class service desk, but has mentored and guided the young people in her team; her dedication was rewarded as she was recognised as a finalist in the much-coveted Outstanding Contribution to an Individual’s Development category.
