Astro is proud to announce that Systems Engineer, Kelsey Knight has been selected to represent the company as one of only 150 women globally who have been invited to undertake some training in Bucharest, with VEEAM, in a drive to recognise stand-out women in IT.
Veeam announced an initiative to upskill more women in the IT Industry, offering to provide free VMCE training to 150 women globally and enabling them to certify as a Veeam Engineer. Veeam is a widely used backup product and Astro use it to backup internal and customer infrastructure.
Steve Hodges said of the announcements, “We are all extremely proud of Kelsey who is without question an excellent engineer and a fantastic ambassador for Astro. I am thrilled that she has recognised by this globally renowned software company and been giving this opportunity.”
This incredible achievement follows closely on the heels of our Head of Service Management, Sarah Smith being named as a finalist in the Mentor of the Year category of the prestigious UKIT Awards and in the ITP, the UK’s leading independent body for people who work in the telecommunications industry, Awards in both the Apprentice Champion and Women in Technology Award.
Steve continued, “Being recognised by such prestigious organisations for smashing the glass ceiling is not just an honour, but a testament to the determination not just the women at Astro, but the whole team have to succeed. While other companies have quotas and incentives to drive diversity in the workplace, we can just select the right people for the job, in a culture of inclusivity and individualism and let the results show for themselves.”
We are also delighted to announce Steve Hodges and Robert Hannon have also been shortlisted in the ITP Awards for Outstanding Contribution to an Individuals Development, and ITP SME Apprentice of the Year category. Astro has been recognised in the People and Culture Team Award category which serves to underline all we do at Astro develop everyone in the team and help them reach their full potential.
Astro and the team have been recipients of many awards over the years. Steve Hodges was crowned Director of the Year at the highly prestigious Institute of Directors Awards in 2020, this followed Astro being finalists in 2019 World Communication Awards first ever Culture Change Awards – an award that recognises organisations that are best progressing in transforming cultural attitudes throughout their business. Astro were also shortlisted in the Comms National Awards, Positive Impact Category for CSR. Steve Hodges and Astro Co-Founder and CTO, Steve Smith have both been recognised for their achievements by receiving Honorary Fellowships of the ITP in recent years.
