Astro is delighted to announce that their Head of Service Management, Sarah Smith, is a finalist in the highly prestigious, UK IT Awards.
Sarah, who started at Astro as a Service Desk Customer Adviser and is now head of a team of 17, and growing, has been shortlisted in the Mentor of the Year Category. To be recognised in this category is particularly rewarding as a key part of her role is to help and encourage her team’s personal and professional development.
Sarah’s passion for learning and development is evident through the support that she provides to her entire team from apprentices through to more experienced staff who she actively encourages to continue learning and developing. So far, Sarah has coached 6 apprentices successfully to complete a course with the ITP; 3 of these candidates have successfully won ‘SME Apprentice of the Year’ Award with another 2 applications being submitted this year. This hattrick of successes shows what a strong and successful mentor Sarah is.
Sarah says of the nomination, “Throughout each person’s development, I recognise key strengths and identify and suggest suitable roles for them to consider to work towards. In addition to technical and industry training, I work on transferable life skills, pushing each individual out of their comfort zone a little, to help them gain life experience alongside working life. I’m so proud be recognised for this by such a prestigious organisation.”
Steve Hodges, Astro Chief Executive said of Sarah’s, “I am absolutely delighted that Sarah has been recognised for the incredible work she does in developing not just her team, but staff across the organization. As a believer in self-learning herself, Sarah has helped so many others see the benefits and push themselves towards a better future. Something that is at the very centre of the Astro ethos”.

Steve Hodges was crowned Director of the Year at the highly prestigious Institute of Directors Awards, this followed Astro being finalists in 2019 World Communication Awards first ever Culture Change Awards – an award that recognises organisations that are best progressing in transforming cultural attitudes throughout their business. 2020 also saw Astro shortlisted in the Comms National Awards, Positive Impact Category for CSR.
