Astro become a corporate associate of the ITP
Astro to play a vital role in the structure of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals while supporting their work in helping the industry.
Kent, UK 29th March 2016
Astro is delighted to have been invited to become a Corporate Associate of the ITP. The Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) is the UK’s leading independent institution for people who work in telecommunications. The ITP is dedicated to promoting professional and career development of members. In addition to this, the ITP collaborates with regulators, government associations and other leading bodies on a wide variety of projects that are important to the future of the industry, representing the views of its members.
Steve Smith, co-founder and CTO of Astro said “Astro has been a supporter of the ITP for a number of years. In fact the ITP have always been an important part of my career dating back to 1973 when I set out as a Post Office Telecommunications apprentice. Back then their journal was the only source of reliable industry and technical updates. Today the ITP’s role is as important as ever keeping us up to date with industry developments through their journal and educational events as well as running an excellent industry apprenticeship scheme.”
The ITP are integral partners in the Astro Communications’ apprenticeship scheme, enabling Astro to provide apprenticeships on par with the industry stalwarts such as BT and Virgin Media. Astro’s first two apprentices successfully completed their apprenticeship, graduating in December 2015. Astro’s next apprenticeship launches this month.
Crissi Williams, Senior Commercial Manager of the ITP said “Corporate Associates play a vital role in the structure of the ITP; helping us to help the industry. As a Corporate Associate, Astro Communications will have the chance to support our work, whilst making a contribution to their CSR objectives by enhancing the careers of members and the reputation of telecommunications as a whole.”
Steve Hodges, Managing Director of Astro went on to say “Customer service and professionalism have always been vital ingredients of our business but even more so for the future. Becoming a Corporate Associate of the ITP will help us to maintain our own standards and the standards and reputation of our industry as a whole. Steve Smith will be our nominated ITP ambassador which will be a natural extension to his IT Livery Company role”
Steve Smith concluded “Astro are delighted to have the opportunity of becoming a Corporate Associate of the ITP. It is a natural progression for us and will enable us to formalise our support of this important institution. I am looking forward to giving something back to both the ITP and an industry that has given me so much pleasure for more than 40 years.”
