Astro Technology Group is delighted to have been one of the sponsors of Chelsea Ladies FC (1992-2004), in the Brain Mills Memorial Trophy. A match played between the Chelsea Ladies Legends (1992-1998) V The Chelsea Ladies Academy (1998-2004).
Brian Mills was an Executive Box Holder at Stamford Bridge back in 1980-90’s. He would literally lock his guests in until they sponsored a player! Without that financial support the club would have folded. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us but naming the trophy in his honour was recognition of his support. We are honoured that the trophy was presented by his son Jonathan, his wife and two of his grandchildren who drove up from Cornwall on the morning of the match.
In the first year of a three-year sponsorship, Astro were thrilled to be offered the opportunity to be the Matchball and Programme sponsor and jumped at the chance to contribute.
For some of the Legends, this was the first time back on a pitch in a competitive capacity in many years. Arguably, many of them were at the forefront of competitive ladies football in the UK and to be still inspiring and promoting the sport in this way is fantastic.
Tony Farmer, founder of the Chelsea Ladies team commented “we wanted to give fans the opportunity to see where one of Europe’s elite started and at the same time raise funds for girls’ grassroots projects to give opportunities to today’s budding stars that our players never enjoyed, as well as continuing our tradition of raising money for children’s charities with Shooting Stars Children’s Hospice in Hampton benefiting by around £1000. The event was made possible thanks the help of Astro and other sponsors to whom we owe so much. Judging from feedback , a fantastic day was enjoyed by all.”
In response, Steve Hodges, CEO of Astro Technology group said “As an organisation that has always encouraged equality and diversity, having won awards for the role we play in our industry on that front, we didn’t hesitate to be involved in supporting this event. Understanding that it would not only be a fun day out for all, it would undoubtedly go some way to inspiring a future generation of girls and ladies in football. I understand the day was a huge success and both teams put on a fantastic performance for the sizable crowd. Next year we hope it goes from strength to strength and I look forward to joining some of the Astro team to spectate on the day.”
Astro would like to congratulate the players, organisers and thank the supporters on the day and look forward to a similarly successful event next year.
